Recognizes the traditions, struggles, and contributions of the
Central Valley’s immigrants
Through this cultural exchange and artistic expression Central
Valley communities join voices and create new bonds, thus forming
a solid sense of place and establishing bases for more active
civic participation.
A Project of the Pan Valley Institute of the American Friends Service Committee.
Performances: Persian, Armenian, Lao, and
Mexican dances; music by local favorites Patrick Contreras; and
MEZCAL, and international artists Rocío Prospero and Martha Toledo.
A poetry jam featuring local poet Burlee Vang and from New York
Survivor and Shadokat.
History Time Tunnel: Photography, artifacts,
and stories narrating the contributions of immigrant communities
toward building a richer Central Valley
Pláticas: Spaces for open dialogue addressing
current topics of interest such as the history of Armenian and
Filipino immigrants by Central Valley authors Berge Bulbulian
and Herb Jamero
Film Series: the internationally acclaimed
Mexican film El Violín by Francisco Vargas, Tou and Mai, a romantic
Hmong comedy by Kang Vang; Divided We Fall by Valerie Kaur documenting
post 9/11 racism; and a series of Native American short films
Cultural Kitchen:Delicious cuisine from
different cultures and traditions. |
